September/October 2023 Update - Garden

The autumn colour has been slow to arrive this year but is now starting to emerge. We are fortunate to have many mature trees and shrubs, particularly in the Front Garden, and these shine beautifully when lit by rays of the low autumn sun. There are berries, fruits, and vibrant leaves aplenty. The birds are noticeably busy again now.

We trust that the Garden will be an autumn delight just in time for our last National Gardens Scheme opening of this year. This will be held on Sunday October 22 and pre-booking is essential. Please book here for what promises to be a delightful day wandering around the Garden and Beatons Wood. Refreshments will be supplied by Cancer Research UK.

Based on visitor feedback, the Gardens Team feel that the series of Study Mornings held here in 2023 have been a success. We are therefore planning to hold many more next year. We will be posting the relevant information on the garden website in the New Year.

Our Seed Study morning was such an interesting session. We looked at how to collect, clean and store home saved seeds and then everyone had the chance to perfect their seed sowing skills, taking their pots of sown seed home. Attendees were also given some Bates Green Garden seed - a rare opportunity to grow a new variety perhaps?

Our last Bates Green Garden Open Wednesday for 2023 will be on Wednesday October 25th before we close for winter work. Do come along and see us, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity that the Garden provides.
